Partner Spotlight – Floyd Trotman III

Floyd Trotman III, Founder of CertifiNOW LLC, and premiere Project Management Delivery Partner for IBEX, is dedicated to making sure that students pass the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Exam on their first attempt.- all while having a good time. We asked Floyd more about his company, what he does and why he loves doing it…

Q. What do you do?

A. I am the founder of CertifiNOW, LLC. CertifiNOW provides advanced certification training for corporate professionals, consultants, and entrepreneurs. We are known for our “Get Certified – Stay Certified” marketing campaign and enabling students to pass the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) international project management certification exam’s on the 1st attempt. At CertifiNOW, we provide advanced certification training in an accelerated manner. CertifiNOW reduces classroom preparation from 12 months to 3 days! We enable our clients to become certified in project management as PMPs (Project Management Professionals) or CAPMs (Certified Associates in Project Management) after just 3 days of classroom instruction.

Q.  What is a little known fact about yourself or one of your favorite hobbies?

A. I am known as a subject management expert (SME) in Project Management with 2 Master Degrees and multiple professional certifications. Therefore, many people are surprised to find out that I was a football player in college. However, I played Division I college football as an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh.

Q.  What is the funniest thing that has happened to you in a classroom:

A. I cannot think of the “funniest” thing, however, in each CertifiNOW class there is a lot of laughter. One of our principals is that we are “Boredom-Resistant!” Therefore we have fun in our classes. Students often share funny stories about what “bad” thing happened on their job because they didn’t follow the principles we teach in our project management classes. Many of the stories are hilarious!

Q. Why do you love what you do?

A. I love to help people. In order to help people, you often have to educate them. I love my job because I am helping people in their careers by teaching them the global standard for project management and helping them get internationally certified as project management professionals (PMP or CAPM).  I enjoy helping our clients achieve their goals by providing the highest quality content and experience, and by saving them time and money!

In spite of the accelerated nature of our training, we still guarantee that our students will pass their project management certification exams on their 1st attempt! Fulfilling that promise is fun to me. Currently, we have the highest pass rate in the industry because over 90% of our students do pass their certification exams on the 1st attempt.

My father always told me “You can be anything you want to be, this is the age of Women’s Lib.” So, needless to say I had many dreams and considerations of what that would be…I was “Jersey Girl” minus the hairspray…

As a child, during our family visits to “Steeler Country,” I saw signs for “Lucille’s Transmissions”…I could own a mechanics shop, why not, I love cars. After many years of working on my 1980’s clunkers, I realized that wasn’t the route for me. I was pretty good at defending myself, so I thought, hmmm… a Lawyer, yes they make a lot of money. My first year at Pitt I took a law class and halfway through thought I would choke if I read another case study. So, I would eventually take after my father and study business – our family owned Miller Rug and Carpet Service. Helping him with the family business, installing Carpet many summers, he taught me many lessons – Sales, Pricing and Killer Negotiations: telling the customers he wouldn’t work on weekends, we had church!

After finishing my BA, I continued on at Pitt for my MBA…I thought to myself, then what – I needed some experience! So I left my terrible towel behind and moved to Hotlanta. With much support from my family, I found my way into the Training industry – cold calling for New Horizons which would give me a great foundation and allow me to put my business training to work.  After climbing the rungs and leaving there as a Senior Sales Manager, I spent some years at FedEx and Learning Tree before taking a leap of faith to join Quint – an International Consulting firm. I would follow the path that God intended and become a VP of Business Development – Learning much about International Business, IT Service Management, Governance , Staffing and working in a Partner and Resale environment. Blessed enough to have my path laid out for me, I used the years of experience gained, and harnessed the encouragement and support from my husband, to start IBEX.

Hands down best business decision I have ever made. IBEX is made up of such a talented team – using all of our skills and contributions – we use our diverse experiences to make a best-in class company. We thrive because we all believe in what we do, and we are all natural born leaders. We support and encourage creativity, work-life balance and thrive in an equal-opportunity environment. We celebrate our differences, execute at a high level and are transparent in our work. Our clients love us because of this.

Let’s connect and explore the possibilities to partner.

My name is Anna Grace O’Donoghue and I am an Intern working with the Marketing Director here at IBEX. I am a Management Information Systems major with a minor in Spanish at the University of Georgia in Athens.

I am a very hardworking person with strong organization skills, leadership abilities and love being given the opportunity to further myself personally and professionally. I feel that these strengths are an asset to IBEX, especially as I grow in my knowledge of the business world.

I started working with IBEX this summer, and expected to learn a lot, but I have just been blown out of the water with how much I have been able to learn and grow with this company. I work behind the scenes with Shanah Kitzerow (Marketing Director) and I am absolutely loving it. I get to be creative – coming up with new ideas and generating new content for our social networking sites and blog while learning so much about the business world and technology. Ever wonder who is posting from our social networking sites? Yeah, that’ s me!

Not only have I learned a lot through IBEX, but I have gotten to know some amazing women! Shanah has been an amazing teacher as she has led and instructed me through this internship. President and CEO Tracey Grace is an amazing leader with a great head on her shoulders. I couldn’t be more grateful to be working with these women!

Outside of IBEX, I love listening to music. All types of music, except for country (sorry country music lovers). I could be left on this earth with nothing but music and I would be happy. I enjoy spending the majority of my time with friends looking for the next adventure, as well as spending all of my money on concert tickets and food.

I aim to work as hard as I can in everything I set out to do and hope to someday be a Project Manager. I am a brother of the Professional Business Fraternity known as Delta Sigma Pi (Shout out to my fellow delta sigs) as well as Vice President of Financial Development where I plan fundraisers for our philanthropy. I am an active member of the Wesley Foundation at UGA and raised money in order to go to Jamaica on a mission trip – where we worked to help a community meet their needs both physically and spiritually…a life changing experience to say the least!

I love meeting new people and would love to hear from you. Have any questions? Hit me up on Twitter: @agodonoghue

Scholarships Uncovered – by Tracey Grace

IBEXImage_UncoveringMoneyAt the University of Pittsburgh Admissions and Financial Aid office back in the 90’s, I started working as a work-study student giving campus tours.  Eventually, after getting my bachelor’s degree and not really wanting to enter the job market, I decided to consider grad school.  We had graduate students always in and out of the office working, getting a free ride, so I decided to ask the questions – to see how it could work for me.  I had a great manager and she was super helpful with her guidance on how to get my MBA through a graduate tuition fellowship while working there. I was young and the program was rigorous, but since I had many different office jobs since high school, with a few interviews, I got approved for the program.  Soon after getting my MBA, the job market still wasn’t very exciting so I was offered, and was happy to accept, my first real full-time gig with Pitt – as an Admissions and Financial aid counselor.  I worked there for a few years before winning the job to recruit the first class of the College of Business Administration.

Since a lot of my friends and family know my history working for Pitt, they often ask me how to go about searching for college scholarships.  So here goes, here is my advice:

First getting college scholarships is a matter of timing.  If you already know which school you want to attend, you really have to apply on time and apply for financial aid as soon as possible.  Even if you are not eligible for financial aid, this is the process that gets the ball rolling for internal scholarships and need-based aid.  Money is always on a first come first serve basis, so don’t hold up your decision too long as you might just price yourself out of the best and easiest money.  Once it’s gone, its gone.

Secondly, independent scholarships can be random.  When I was in high school, I went to my guidance counselor’s office on a weekly basis to inquire about any new scholarships they were made aware of.  I was always handed a manila folder and made copies of any scholarships that remotely applied to my circumstances.  Woman – Check, Christian – Check, Minority – Check, Like to play an instrument – Check – there are a lot of random scholarships out there that you just need to be yourself to get.  When I graduated, I was awarded 4 scholarships, I had a solid B average and a decent SAT but I wasn’t setting the world on fire.  I even got one from the Rotary Club which I cannot remember even applying for.  You must be diligent; you will win the war if you are.

Third, if you have a talent, there is a scholarship for it.  Of course Athletics is the most widely known, but you don’t need to be the fastest running back in your school to earn a scholarship.  There are division 2 and 3 scholarships out there, many being partial, but often times just enough to even out the costs to make it affordable enough for you to attend the school of your dreams.  Being on scholarship also gives you extra support and helps to structure your time.  A huge benefit is free tutoring, which helps you to make it through that crazy freshman year.

Fourth, if you are in the Band, toot your own horn – there are band and majorette scholarships.

Fifth, ask family members.  Often times Uncle John or Aunt Tess is a member of a remote organization that gives away scholarships on an annual basis and sometimes they have a hard time finding good candidates for them.  .

Sixth, explore military benefits – Many military organizations have scholarships focused on veterans’ children.  Go online to the branch of service you are linked to, and see what other organization’s advertise for their scholarships or provided links on the family pages.  Also, connect with AFCEA – the Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association, many are very education focused and give away scholarships to STEM focused students.

Always be sure to ask if the scholarships are one time or renewable for 4 years – you will be surprised how many will renew for all 4 years.

I hope this information helps some.  To get you started, I would recommend starting in your guidance counselor’s office.  Some of the traditional organizations are still using snail mail as their preferred method of communication guaranteed – not sure if they are still using manila files but I bet some are.  Next, visit these websites for more information:

Have questions or feedback?  Post your comments. I would love to hear from you.

Happy Hunting!!
