What is Cyber Sec Graphic 1

CyberSec First Responder: Threat Detection and Response, or CFR, is a course designed for information assurance professionals who perform job functions related to the development, operation, management, and enforcement of security capabilities for systems and networks.

This course is also designed for students who are seeking to fulfill DoD directive 8570.01 for information assurance training.  This course prepares students to take the CyberSec First Responder Certification Exam.

_ Develops security threat intelligence skills that protect organizations from cyber threats.
– Emphasizes penetration testing as a proactive approach to securing networks.
– Ties together the dierent tactics organizations employ in protecting their information systems.
– Allows you to secure networks without investing in additional security infrastructure.

How Does CyberSec First Responder (CFR) Stack Up?

SCYBER vs. CFR
Cisco SCYBER is a new certification focused on developing the skill-set needed to operate in a cyber security analyst job role. It focuses largely on intrusion detection and response, which is covered in CFR. The two differ in that CFR introduces additional strategies organizations employ in protecting their information systems. Where SCYBER focuses on what's happening during an attack, CFR prepares professionals to identify vulnerabilities, proactively mitigate risk, and effectively respond to security threats in real time. Sound security strategies require vigilance before, during, and after an attack. CFR develops the skills needed to proactively defend against cyber attacks, in addition to the knowledge gained from each incident so that it never happens again.

CEH vs. CFR
EC-Council's CEH is an ethical hacking course, focused on developing an understanding of different threat vectors and hacking strategies. The course enforces penetration testing skills that can be used to identify vulnerabilities before they can be leveraged to access an organization's information systems. CFR also focuses on developing an understanding of differing threat vectors, in addition to the penetration skills developed in CEH. That said, CFR goes beyond vulnerability analysis and testing, enforcing a more holistic approach to network security. In such a complexenvironment, with an unknown and adaptive enemy, things are going to fall through the cracks. Security professionals today need to possess the skills necessary to identify attacks as they happen and respond to them
before they become front-page news. CFR develops these skills and ensures that security professionals are more than ethical hackers.

SANS vs CFR
There are a number of SANS courses that cover bits and pieces of what we see in CFR. From intrusion analysis to incident handling, professionals have a number of options in choosing a SANS course and subsequent certification.

CFR allows professionals to attain a knowledge base covered in multiple SANS courses, with the limited expense and time investment of a single course. Additionally, CFR takes a holistic view of the security landscape, recognizing that intrusion analysis, incident handling, and other defensive security strategies are just a piece of the puzzle. Today's security professional needs to be able to proactively access an organization's security posture through vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, in addition to threat detection and response.

Cobit 5 is IT Governance – it helps define what should be done.  The two major parts are Enterprise Governance and Management Techniques.  When it was first developed, the main focus was Audit and Control.  The whole framework has matured and now IT is discovering a real way to use it to help out IT and the rest of the company working with IT. Talk about converting structure into dollars!
